I grew up in Lincolnshire and moved around the country in my early 20’s living in Norwich, Nottingham, Blackpool and Harlow in Essex before settling in Shropshire in 1996. I live in the Shropshire hills 9 miles from Shrewsbury. I have 2 grown up daughters: the oldest is a radiographer in Bristol and the youngest is travelling in South Asia. I am currently living with my 2 cats, Noodles and Luna until the youngest returns home in September.
I have grown up cooking, my late grandmother, a farmers wife, was an inspiration to me in the kitchen, her mince pies were a legend in our family (homemade mincemeat)
I love cooking and believe that everyone needs to learn to cook, as it is a life skill. I live in a rural part of the country and I am passionate about eating good quality, local and seasonal food. I am currently teaching food and see the joy that the pupils get from their practical lessons but they are less engaged in written tasks, they just want to cook. I wanted to do something that would allow me to cook with children without the written work and all the admin involved.
I have been teaching Food in a secondary school for over 20 years. Prior to this I worked in the hospitality industry, until I had children and needed a more regular job.
I love long walks in the Shropshire hills and catching up with friends over a good meal and a glass of wine. I enjoy winding down at the end of the day, with a swim. I am a Liverpool FC supporter but since the death of my father 3 years ago have not been to a match. I like to watch most sport, but you’ll never find me watching cricket! I cycle, and have done charity rides from London to Paris, and a 3 cities ride from London to Amsterdam and then Brussels. I am finding the Shropshire hills challenging as I am getting older and hope to get an electric bike soon.
I love making puddings. I’ve always said if I became a chef I would be a pastry chef. I like to explore new food and visiting my daughter in Bristol gives me the opportunity to try some of the many restaurants with different cultures.
I am excited to bring cook stars to Shropshire and look forward to sharing my passion for cooking with future generations.
I'd love to have the opportunity to chat and discuss how we can help your school or organisation get cooking!
I'm really excited about being able to deliver sessions and workshops for schools and organisations in the community. I look forward to seeing you all in class soon.
Sally x
