I'm Angela, wife to the lovely Nick, mum to two gorgeous growing boys and a fabulous (if somewhat needy!) dog called Ted. I love food. I cook it, eat it, share it, read about it, watch it, teach it; I just can't get enough!
I have fond early memories of picking and eating fragrant tomatoes with my Granddad in his greenhouse, behaving like a Bisto kid following the enticing smell of my Nanna's bacon soup as I skipped through her back door, toasting bread on the open coal fire in the sitting room with my other Granddad and baking quiches and cakes with my mum over the years.
I'm eager to pass on my love of food to my own children (and yours!) and have always encouraged my boys to be open to new tastes, to get involved with cooking with me in the kitchen and to give different foods a go.
I love travel and have been lucky enough to visit many different countries. I have experienced some exciting cultures and food stands out among those for me. Highlights include the spicy, aromatic street foods of Malaysia and Thailand, having curry for breakfast after a long flight to New Delhi, rustling up a delicious lunch at a cooking school in Laos and savouring the succulent steaks seared on an Argentinian asado.
I've worked with people within social care settings for most of my adult life, and I've loved that, but it was when I had the privilege of living with my family in South Africa in 2018 for 2 years, with my husband's job, that I experienced the joy of working with children when volunteering for a number of projects. I taught English with 'Read for Africa' at a primary school within a nearby township, I joined in with, and ultimately co-ordinated, the delivery of food parcels to the most needy children at a different primary school within the same township, and I taught cooking with 'Taste Buddies' in after school classes and workshops.
I am so excited about Cook Stars, its given me the opportunity to combine my long established love of all things food and cooking with my joy of working children.
