My name is Annette Barrett and I run Cook Stars Cardiff North & West.

I am a qualified Home Economics teacher with over 30 years’ experience of teaching food in secondary schools. Having taken early retirement, I am now ready for the new challenge of promoting the importance and love of cooking in the wider community and decided to join Cook Stars in order to further this goal.
I just loved the name ‘Cook Stars’. Cooking allows every child the opportunity to shine in their own unique way and I'm so excited to be running children's cooking classes. I instantly knew I needed to be involved in this business in order to create an abundance of ‘stars’ armed with essential life skills.
Learning to cook is such an important life skill but unfortunately over the years less and less time has been given to this subject in the school curriculum and many children have not been able to experience what they should have. Cooking has never been more important than it is now with increased obesity rates, diabetes and other food related disorders. I am so excited to be able to contribute to improving a person’s health and well-being through cooking.
I am married with two children, both in their twenties. They have been away at university but still want to come home for some ‘proper food’!!
In my spare time I like to follow sport and I am a Cardiff City Season ticket holder. I also swim regularly and recently swam the length of the English Channel for charity. Holidaying somewhere hot is also a must!
I am really looking forward to the future with Cook Stars!

Cook Stars Juniors
Our classes are very hands-on with everyone making their own dish from scratch!
Every week we make something different with inspiration taken from dishes around the world. With a selection of gorgeous sweet and savoury dishes each week there is plenty of opportunity to learn about different ingredients. With such a variety of dishes we try plenty of different preparation techniques....from icing to dicing we do it all! Find out more

Cook Stars Academy
Cook Stars Academy Classes are suitable for young learners and teens aged 11-17 years old.
Our hands on practical classes teach a variety of techniques and build confidence in the kitchen week on week. Every week we cook something different with a mixture of main courses and puddings. We cook a great variety of foods, for example Indian, Chinese, Italian, Spanish, Mexican dishes as well as pies, cakes and puddings. Find out more
