I am a qualified Primary Teacher with nearly 30 years' experience and during my career I have had the pleasure of teaching all Pre-School and Primary age groups. I have also worked with teenagers as a voluntary and part-time Youth Worker and on school holiday Playschemes with children of all ages, some with special needs or disabilities. I am passionate about working with young people and helping them achieve everything they are capable of. Life-long learning is very important to me!
I have taken cookery activities into the classroom with me at every opportunity during Literacy, Numeracy and Science lessons as I think children learn more when they are doing something practical and fun- when teaching fractions, there's no better way of finding half than spreading jam on half a slice of toast (and eating it afterwards, of course!)
I am a real 'foodie' and I love the whole process of cooking and making a tasty meal. I am also fascinated by the scientific reactions and chemical processes that go on during cooking and will really enjoy being able to share this with children.
My husband and I own a narrowboat and have enjoyed many canal holidays together. When you're cooking in a boat galley, you have to be super-organised and forward-thinking; you may not be near shops for supplies, there's limited storage space and you can't use a microwave for defrosting as you'd drain your boat power supplies!
After nearly 3 decades in the classroom I felt it was time for a change of direction that combined my love of teaching with my creative side. It is a wonderful feeling when you see children achieving and growing while enjoying an activity you have provided. After all, if they're happy, I'm happy!
