Hello I'm Nicky Sandhu and I own Cook Stars Broxbourne and East Hertfordshire.
I began working in the hospitality industry at the age of 14. I worked my way up the ranks from washing up, cleaning, cooking, and serving in the bar and restaurant when I turned 18.
Whilst studying Art and Design at college I had aspirations to work in fashion industry and I was accepted into University to study an HND. Unfortunately due to personal circumstances I was unable to pursue that career, so I decided I would do what came naturally to me and work in the hospitality industry. By the time I was 21 I was an assistant manager to a very big restaurant chain. I absolutely loved the buzz, the pace and meeting new people every day along with making some very special friends.
This is where my true passions began, cooking, learning about new foods and trends along with training and developing people.
I moved to London in 1999 and have been lucky enough to manage some prestigious restaurants and contracts within the square mile.
I became a Regional Finalist for Young Manager of the Year in 2001/2 in London for Harpers on Trade a well renowned industry magazine.
I have a young daughter of 7, she loves cooking and baking as much as I do. I'm lucky to have a little helper when prepping dinner.
I love to read when I have the time and go on long walks - Coastal routes are my favourite. I have a passion for travel, history and nature.
I have been looking to run my own business for some time but couldn't quite find the right venture, until one day I discovered Cook Stars. It was like a light bulb moment I instantly knew it was for me.
In 2009 my niece asked me if I could teach her and her 2 friends to cook for their Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. I designed a 6 week cookery course including basic food hygiene. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. My niece is all grown up now and says she still cooks the recipes I taught her. I met her friends again recently and they told me they have very fond memories of that time. This made me realise what a lasting impression this left on them and how it will to those I teach in the future.
I am so looking forward to my new adventure and the joy it will bring.
