Amber Valley and Erewash

I have a huge passion for cooking, which I have developed since childhood.

Hi. My name is Rebecca Patrick and, together with Becky Ross, I'll be running Cook Stars Amber Valley and Erewash, situated in the East Midlands. I'm incredibly excited to be associated with Cook Stars, as it combines my twin passions: food, and working with children.

I live in a house full of boys, so I'm often to be found in the kitchen: hiding away from noise and Nerf wars! I'm married to Ali - who, in addition to having a very busy working life, is also a retained firefighter - and I have two lovely boys who I am extremely proud of. William, my eldest son, is definitely following in my footsteps and is becoming wonderfully independent in the kitchen. James, my youngest, is much happier eating, rather than preparing, food.

I'm a qualified teaching assistant/nursery nurse, with over 17 years' experience. I absolutely love the variety of challenges that working with children brings. I have worked with children of all ages (from 0-16) in a range of settings, including nurseries, schools, care homes and pupil referral units.

I have a huge passion for cooking, which I have developed since childhood. Our house always has the aroma of baking in the air and is often full with friends at mealtimes; Ali often jokes that we feed the street, which actually isn't that far from the truth.

In my downtime - which is a rarity in the hustle and bustle of my lovely household - I enjoy curling up with a book, spending time with friends and family, and... you might have guessed it: cooking and baking!

The process of experimenting with ingredients and the preparation of food is such a fun challenge and I really hope that my enthusiasm will be infectious in encouraging children and parents to develop their confidence to try something new. I hope to provide a fun learning experience for the children whilst teaching them a very valuable life skill: one that I was very lucky to learn when I was a child.

From a very young age my children have been with me in the kitchen, watching and helping, as was I with my mum and her with hers.

Hi I'm Becky Ross and together with Rebecca Patrick we are excited to be bringing Cook Stars to Amber Valley and Erewash.

I am a mum of three lively children who all share my passion for baking (and eating!). From a very young age my children have been with me in the kitchen, watching and helping, as was I with my mum and her with hers. I have always encouraged independence in the kitchen which shows through the confidence my children have when baking. My eldest is now studying GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition with the aim of working in Environmental Health.

The kitchen is a very special place for us, it is the heart of our home and we probably spend more time there than any other room in the house! Particularly at weekends when we usually have our main baking sessions.

When I'm not in the kitchen, I can often be found with my nose in a book. Another passion that I have passed on to my children. Our house is full of books and book cases yet I still find excuses to buy more. I even had a cupboard especially built in my new kitchen just for cook books! I attend a local book club and enjoy a wide range, although Harry Potter is a strong family favourite.

I used to teach swimming to babies and toddlers through another children's franchise and it was here that I developed a love of teaching important life skills to children. I started to think about the possibility of owning my own franchise however due to a reaction to the chemicals in the water I eventually had to leave. The thought of owning my own business stayed with me and I started thinking how I could turn my hobby of baking into a business which can also fit around my family. Having done some searching on the internet I came across the idea of children's cooking school franchises and knew that this could combine my hobby with my love of my previous job and dream of my own business. Out of the numerous franchises available Cook Stars appears to stand out as a growing business with a very professional online presence. Having worked within a successful franchise already I feel that this has given me a small insight into the skills and determination required to make the business work.

Together with Rebecca Patrick who also wanted to combine her own love of baking with working with children, we attended a Discovery Day in Staffordshire and knew within minutes that this would be the perfect opportunity for both of us. Together we are very excited to be bringing Cook Stars classes across the whole of Amber Valley and Erewash.
