Hi. My name is Rebecca Patrick and, together with Becky Ross, I'll be running Cook Stars Amber Valley and Erewash, situated in the East Midlands. I'm incredibly excited to be associated with Cook Stars, as it combines my twin passions: food, and working with children.
I live in a house full of boys, so I'm often to be found in the kitchen: hiding away from noise and Nerf wars! I'm married to Ali - who, in addition to having a very busy working life, is also a retained firefighter - and I have two lovely boys who I am extremely proud of. William, my eldest son, is definitely following in my footsteps and is becoming wonderfully independent in the kitchen. James, my youngest, is much happier eating, rather than preparing, food.
I'm a qualified teaching assistant/nursery nurse, with over 17 years' experience. I absolutely love the variety of challenges that working with children brings. I have worked with children of all ages (from 0-16) in a range of settings, including nurseries, schools, care homes and pupil referral units.
I have a huge passion for cooking, which I have developed since childhood. Our house always has the aroma of baking in the air and is often full with friends at mealtimes; Ali often jokes that we feed the street, which actually isn't that far from the truth.
In my downtime - which is a rarity in the hustle and bustle of my lovely household - I enjoy curling up with a book, spending time with friends and family, and... you might have guessed it: cooking and baking!
The process of experimenting with ingredients and the preparation of food is such a fun challenge and I really hope that my enthusiasm will be infectious in encouraging children and parents to develop their confidence to try something new. I hope to provide a fun learning experience for the children whilst teaching them a very valuable life skill: one that I was very lucky to learn when I was a child.
